Observation

Today, I had the great opportunity to observe one of my fellow tutors! She was very patient and caring with the student, giving her reassurance when the student did not know the answer and praised her when she got it right to make her more confident in her ability. She also frequently asked questions to try to get the student to answer the question from their knowledge, giving small hints when needed, rather then just giving the answer. She used the whiteboard to help the student visualise questions, she drew examples of parallel angles for instance.

She also made sure to clarify throughout the session that she understood and was happy to pause if she needed clarification. Broke down daunting questions into steps to help the student tackle the question. She also made sure to consistently check the students working to make sure there was no reoccurring silly mistakes happening. Used inclusive words like “we” “lets” to help the student feel supported throughout their learning.
