Your Diary Might Be Your Best Study Tool

With school, homework, assessments, exams, tutoring, sport, work, friends and everything else going on, it can sometimes feel like there aren't enough hours in the day.

That's where having a study schedule can make such a difference and no, having a schedule doesn't men planning every single minute of your life.

Sometimes, a simple diary is one of the most useful things you can have.

Writing things down gets them out of your head. Instead of constantly thinking, "I have an assignment due...I need to study for that test...I also have training tonight...and I still need to finish my homework", you can actually see what needs to be done.

Start with the important things.

Write down your assessment dates, exams, tutoring sessions, sport, work, appointments and anything else you already know is happening. Then look at the time you actually have available.

From there, you can work out where your study fits.

Maybe Monday is Maths. Tuesday is English. Wednesday is a lighter study day because you have training. Maybe Saturday morning is when you catch up on assignments and importantly, write down your free time too.

This is something students sometimes forget. Your diary shouldn't just be full of schoolwork.

Leave room to see your friends. Play sport. Watch your favourite show. Go out for dinner. Sleep in. Have a day where you do absolutely nothing. Those things matter too.

Having a balance doesn't mean you're being lazy. In fact, giving yourself time away from studying can help you come back feeling more focused.

A good schedule also means you don't have to rely on remembering everything. You can look at your week and think, "Okay, I know what I need to do and I know when I'm going to do it".

That feeling alone can take away a lot of stress. You don't need the fanciest planner or the perfect colour coded calendar. Grab a diary, notebook or whatever works for you and start writing things down.

Plan your study. Plan your commitments. But don't forget to plan a life outside of school too.
