Sometimes we forget just how much can change in a few years.
The student sitting in a classroom today has no idea where they might be five or ten years from now.
Maybe you're in Year 1 and you're learning how to read. Maybe you're in Year 6 and starting to realise that school is getting a little more serious. Maybe you're in Year 9 trying to work out what you're actually good at. Maybe you're in Year 12 wondering what on earth you're going to do next.
Wherever you are, you don't have to have everything figured out.
School isn't just about getting the highest mark in the class. It's about discovering what you enjoy, finding out what you're capable of and sometimes figuring out what you don't enjoy too.
There will be subjects you love and subjects you absolutely cannot wait to finish. There will be tests you're proud of and tests you wish you could forget. There will be days when everything makes sense and days when you stare at a question thinking, "What am I even looking at?".
That's all part of it.
What matters is that you keep going because you never really know which little moment will change your future.
The subject you almost gave up on might become something you love. The teacher who encouraged you might inspire your career. The skill you thought was pointless might become something you use every day. Even a mistake can teach you something you wouldn't have learned any other way.
So don't worry too much about being the best. Try to be a little better than you were yesterday.
Ask the question. Have another go. Be curious. Try something new and don't be afraid of getting things wrong.
You have so much time to grow, change your mind and discover who you want to become and if you don't know where you're going yet, that's okay.
You don't need to know the whole journey. You just need to take the next step.
