There's something strange about finishing Year 12.
For years, you've been told where you need to be, what you need to study, when your assessments are due and what comes next. Then suddenly, school is almost over and everyone starts asking the same question.
"So, what are you going to do next?" and honestly, you might not know.
Maybe you have a five year plan. Maybe you have no idea what you want to do. Maybe you thought you knew but you've changed your mind and that's okay.
Finishing school doesn't mean you're supposed to have your whole life figured out. It's the beginning of having choices.
There isn't one path that everyone has to follow. You might go to university, start working, travel, take a gap year, learn something completely different, change careers or discover something you never even considered before and you're allowed to change your mind along the way.
The world is much bigger place than the classroom you've spent the last 13 years sitting in. There are people you haven't met, places you haven't seen, opportunities you don't even know exist yet and experiences that will shape who you become.
So don't be scared if you don't have the next step perfectly planned. You've already made it through years of challenges, exams, early mornings, deadlines, mistakes, stressful weeks and moments when you probably wondered if you could do it and you did.
Your ATAR, your final mark or one bad result does not decide what you are capable of becoming. They are simply part of your story. The world is your oyster. You have so much time, so many directions you can take and so much more to discover.
So as you finish school, don't worry about having all the answers. Take the next step, you might be surprised by where it takes you.
