Why coloured highlighters and pens are so important
Coloured pens and highlighters are always overlooked throughout high school, when in reality they are an easy-access super tool that can help your notes and organisation go from monotone to perfection! Our brains thrive on colours and vibrancy to distribute our thoughts, so why shouldn't this be implemented into our school notes?
Students connect strongly with colour, and by allocating each subject its own creates instant structure. For example, your Math notes can go into a red folder with any important information or headings in red pen or highlighter, English can be yellow, Science can be green, Design can be blue and languages can be purple! Once you pick and sort your notes and worksheets, you can clearly see what subjects you subconsciously tend to more (so you can go back to the ones you won't be as confident in with your tutor) and make sure all of the content for each subject is thoroughly covered and understood!
Coloured pens can take your notes a step further; as pens come in much more of a variety than highlighters, you can have different shades of the same colour and allocate a different shade for different things! For maths, you may have the brightest red pen to underling headings, a pale red to add memorisation hacks and a dark red to add any tricky questions so you can always look back on! This layered structure helps your brain understand how ideas connect and relate to each other, reinforcing your knowledge!
Allocating different colours t different subjects isn't only beneficial for note taking, but you can also use it on your wall calendar! For any upcoming hand-in assessments or exams, you can write in that subject's allocated colour the task on your calendar, so while you're at your desk you are taking in what specific subject you should lean towards closer to that exam (and not to mention it makes your calendar look amazing)!
