Today, I had the pleasure of observing Daniella and her student. Seeing her in a teaching environment allowed me to appreciate her approach to learning from a different perspective. I particularly admired the way she created a supportive and comfortable environment while still maintaining clear expectations for the student.
What stood out most to me was her focus on the students' learning process rather than simply whether they reached the correct answer. She encouraged the student to explain her thinking, ask questions and work through challenges independently instead of immediately giving the solution. This created a collaborative learning environment where the student appeared comfortable making mistakes, asking for clarification and trying again.
I also admired how adaptable her teaching was. She did not rely on one particular method but instead adjusted her explanations according to the students' level of understanding and needs. When the student struggled with a concept, she approached it from a different angle and used questioning to continuously guide the student toward the answer. This encouraged critical thinking from the student, gaining confidence in their own ability.
Another quality I admired was her patience and positive attitude. She treated mistakes as a normal, valuable part of learning rather than a negative or a setback. Her encouragement helped the student remain engaged and motivated throughout the duration of the session I observed.
Observing Daniella gave me a greater appreciation for her skills involved in an effective session and inspired me to take some of her ideas and techniques into my own sessions. She proved that tutoring is not solely about a student's understanding but also about being adaptable to the needs and requirements of a student. I hope to incorporate these qualities and ideas into my own sessions.
