Observation

Josie started the session by welcoming her student with a big smile and asking him about his day. After making small talk about the subjects that he had and the things he did, they get stuck right in to work!

Her student is working on some english work and seems to be working very well, occassionally asking her for help with the spelling of a certain word or the definition of something.

They discuss a certain type of bird and think about the implication of its usage in the passage. In order to make the learning more interractive, Josie decides to search up a photo of the bird and show it to her student and prompting a small discussion about birds.

Josie continues to integrate interractive learning techniques into the session, guiding her student to use different colours when highlighting passages as a way of organising his notes and making them easy for him to read and understand. They begin assigning colours for different parts of speech including nouns, for incorrectly used words, incorrect punctuation. Josie provides guidance by reading the passage alongside him and pointing out a few examples, but allowing him to learn effectively by also providing for plenty of opportunities for him to search for the correct answers. Once they get into the rhythm of the task, Josie allows him to display his knowledge by completing the last highlighting task independantly. Josie congratulates him on a job well done!

The session progresses swimmingly, with lots of smiles, laughter, and learning! They take a quick brain break and play uno which sets them up for a more energetic second half of the lesson where they start working on some reflective writing. They go through a scaffold for how to write a response with Josie guiding her student carefully and eventually complete the task successfully!

Overally, this was a highly professional lesson and Josie engaged her student very well, ensuring that he understood his work while having fun!
