Observation

During my observation, James began by explaining the overall process of pythogoras theorem before working through practice questions with the student. James provided clear, step-by-step explanations to help the student understand how to apply the formula correctly. They intially worked through questions together, allowing the student to become more familiar with the process before moving on to more challenging questions. James provided additional guidance when the student experienced difficulties while also giving him enough time to attempt questions independently. Throughout the lesson, James offered helpful tips to prevent the student from continuing with incorrect steps and provided reassurance to build the student's confidence. After each question the tutor reviewed the solution with the student to reinforce his understanding and correct any mistakes. I noticed James was patient and adjusted his explanations based on the students level of understanding. Rather than immediately providing the answers, James encouraged the student to think through each step and try to identify their own mistakes. After completeing each question, James reviewed each question and reviewed the solution with the student to reinforce his understanding. Overall, I observed how providing a balance of guidance, encouragement and independent practice can help students develop their confidence and problem solving skills.
