During this session, Demetria worked with her Year 8 Mathematics student on Measurement, focusing on perimeter, area and converting between different units of measurement.
The student worked through a range of questions and practiced identifying which formula or method was needed for each problem. A key part of the lesson was understanding the difference between perimeter and area, as well as making sure the correct units were used when completing calculations.
Some areas covered included:
- Calculating the perimeter of different shapes
- Finding the area of common shapes
- converting between different units of measurement
- Applying these skills to worded and problem solving questions
Demetria supported the student by breaking down questions step by step and encouraging them to take their time when reading what was being asked. The student was also given opportunities to work independently and explain their thinking.
Throughout the session, Demetria provided guidance where needed and helped clarify any areas of confusion. The student remained engaged and became more comfortable applying the different measurement skills as they worked through the questions.
Overall, it was a productive session that helped strengthen the student's understanding of measurement and build confidence when working with perimeter, area and unit conversions.
