Observation

During the session I observed, Misha worked with Charlie on a range of maths questions. What stood out to me was how calm and patient Misha was throughout the whole lesson. He didn't rush Charlie or immediately feed him the answers which a lot of people do, including myself if I'm being honest. Instead, he asked short questions and give hints to Charlie to try and help in initiate his thought and problem solving skills needed with Maths, as he probably already knew it, but just needed to be reminded or guided to the next step, so for next time he can think back on that exact moment and won't need to be guided again.

Misha explained each problem in a clear, practical way. He broke harder questions down into smaller more easy to understand steps and always checked Charlie understood before moving on. At times, he demonstrated that a method first, but then gave Charlie a similar question to complete independantly, so he can practice and always fix his common mistakes he was making previously. Probably an effective strategy, and something I can definitely replicate, as it ensure the tutor won't have to go back and explain the same mistake over and over again, as the student can practice where he went wrong and fix it permanently very quickly.

Misha's style definitely suited the nature of maths as a subject, as it is a very nitty gritty subject with the process and the smallest mistakes will always result in the answer being wrong down the line. So Misha's style with how to approach his student's errors was definitely the right approach and I could see it work in person. So it is definitely something I will take along to my own tutoring to replicate to make my own job easier with fixing my student's errors.
