Long and short vowels with Pamela & Luis

Pamela, explored long and short vowels with Luis. She separated the sounds and how they are perceived in areas such as the 'i' sound in words such as 'pig' and 'ride'. Pamela is verbalising the differences to emphasise the differences. Pamela continues to keep Luis engaged very effectively! They worked through a worksheet where Luis was challenged to verbalise all the words on the page and identify if the word contained long or short vowels. Luis did very well in this activity, he showed some difficulty but was able to complete all the words without any assistance.

Luis chose to use his hard earned stars to purchase a handball from the prize cabinet, he was very happy about this.

Luis is a very expressive boy who is actually strongly resonating with the work in front of him, often loudly expressing the word or challenge in front of him, this keeps the spirits in the room positive!

Further, the pair explored associating words with their photos to then identify if the vowel in the word was long or short. Luis was able to complete this task with some help, he enthusiastically circled the correct answer on all of them by the end!

Pamela's efforts to keep Luis engaged effectively were consistent through out!

They then worked through a long list of words where Luis was challenged strictly identify long vowels. Luis learnt how to identify long vowels in this activity.

Luis was certainly getting a bit restless towards the end, but the pair continued to battle through the list of words which allowed Luis to further consolidate his knowledge.

Overall, the session consisted of strong repetitions and practice of identifying long and short vowels, which allowed Luis to gain the consolidation he needed to learn the topic effectively. Luis sometimes enjoys speaking in gibberish but certainly never loses his positive attitude!!

Well done Pamela!
