We live in a world that's obsessed and puts the pressure to be perfect right out of the gate. we want the perfect mark on a test or want to be perfect at grasping a topic straight away. But after years of being a tutor, I'll let you in on a big secret, everyone isn't perfect and the magic of learning is actually in all the mess.
Think about it this way. If you already knew how to do everything, you wouldn't be learning, you'd be repeating stuff you already know. Real growth only happens when you're a little bit stuck or in an uncomfortable position but willing to try anyway.
The next time you feel completely overwhelmed or want to throw your laptop out the window, just take a deep breath and remember a few things:
- A wrong answer doesn't mean you aren't smart. It's literally a signpost telling you which direction to try next.
- Being slow at grasping a concept and actually getting it is worth so much more than just rushing just to finish first.
- Every single time you struggle with a hard problem and don't quit, you are making your brain stronger.
Cut yourself some slack. You didn't learn to walk in a day and you won't master a tough subject overnight either.
Every single expert you admire was once a beginner who just refused to give up. So, embrace the awkward phases, celebrate the tiny wins and just keep showing up. You are capable of learning way more than you think, one step at a time!
