Last minute exam Revision tips

When its crunch time and your exam is rapidly approaching and you begin to wonder, have I studied enough? Is there anything left to do? Well these are some tips and easy revision that can help you achieve the best possible results on your upcoming exam.

Start by focusing on high priority topics. First identify the areas that are your weak points and begin revising those. To identify these areas look back and past papers, and school content that you know you have struggled with. Your weak points may not be content based but types of questions. In maths for example, word questions are typically challenging and can trick students who know the content well.

Secondly utilise active recall to your advantage. Do not just re read you notes passively but use flash cards or questions to actively recall the content you know and cement it into your mind. Another excellent strategy is to teach the concepts being tested to someone else with out looking at your notes.

Thirdly practice under exam conditions, time yourself and try to simulate the actual exam. Practice time management within the exam and prioritise questions accordingly. Do not look at your notes and try your best to recall everything you need from memory. Afterwards mark the exam accordingly and then go over and re-attempt questions that you answered incorrectly. By re trying the incorrect questions you begin to learn the content more thoroughly and often in the real exam will be able to identify the same or similar questions and not make the same errors.

Finally one page summaries can help consolidate your learning. Fill out an entire page with everything you remember from that subject or exam. This helps identify anything you have forgot as well as connect concepts together. Draw diagrams and mind maps onto this page to help create connections.
