Exhaustion.

As year 11 and 12 students prepare for exams I am reminded of the consistent exhaustion faced. Whilst at university, I still experience the same tiredness drawn out by one due date after another; I don't think anything levels the stress and strain I felt during my final years of school.

Yet, I can't help but think that, among all my all-nighters, exhaustion and lunchtime naps, I would've done the same, if not better, with just a bit of extra sleep. I recommend to all my students before a big exam to get an early night.

Coalescing with that advice, I think in these stressful periods it is really easy to remember to neglect yourself, fail at self-care and, most importantly, push back your sleep schedule hour by hour in the pursuit of doing well.

If you are reading this and you're in Year 12, I urge you to give yourself the small enjoyment of a good night's sleep. With that being said, organisation plays a huge part. My twin sister, throughout our HSC, would be in bed by 9:30 every night. I thought this was mythological and would often wonder what I was doing wrong. The key: she was much more organised than me. She never let a due date sneak up on her, loved a study schedule and would plan her day and execute it with no flaw. Throughout the year I got better at mirroring her actions.

Organisation = less stress = more sleep.

I know it isn't that simple but it does help. If you can't engage in a more micro form of self-care, e.g. face masks, a long walk etc

Take care of yourself and prioritise your sleep. I promise you the extra hour of skimming your notes will not benefit you as much as sleep.
